Cochlea

2017
Durban
archival print/dibond/white frame
59-78.7 inches, (edition 5 + 2 a.p.)

The work Cochlea was made in Durban, South Africa. The empty space between a spiral shaped entrance to a parking garage has the shape of a snail’s shell due to the perspective that is vertically up. It is an almost kaleidoscopic architectural moment in a hectic city that escapes from the hectic pace of the urban environment. Not primarily because the shot was taken at night, but also because the nighttime light reveals a picturesque quality of the hard concrete environment.
