The dilapidated and condemned Lorna Court Building was built in 1931. It is beyond comprehension how the building burned down in 2006. A heavy argument between husband and wife that got out of hand culminated in a disastrous event when the man deliberately set his wife on fire. It didn’t take long for the entire building to catch fire. Many residents lost their lives and others were injured trying to jump from the burning building.
Initially, the apartments were seen as a promise for Johannesburg to become the new Manhattan. Lorna Court is now a symbol for many of the decay of the City of Gold.
